Our Needs Assessment

The findings from the Tracer and Labour Market Assessment Study revealed that 49% of youth who completed vocational studies between 2017 and 2022 are unemployed because they lack start-up capital or kits. Some of these youths end up on the streets on Kampala (Daily Monitor, 25-08-2022).

Currently, we have over 1,500 members operating in the areas of Kiseka, Nabugabo, Owino, Nakasero, Kisenyi, Nassar Road, Namayiba, among others. Traders are mainly in auto spare parts business, old clothes, mechanics, brokers, commonly known as the Kadeyi deyi, food vendors among others.

The SACCO executive identifies the idle youth, counsels and trains them in business, mentor them into a saving culture, start for them a business, monitor and support them on how to run a business. this is also done in busoga were we set up the agricultural projects, in the free time members are trailed other business ideas of making soap, candles and value addition on agricultural products,

We have a strong human resource department that has recruited business mentorship officers who identify these vulnerable youths on the street, talk to them on why they need to leave the streets, register them into the SACCO, encourage them to start saving, as they mentor them in business management. When their behaviors are changed, some are recommended to SACCO members to work in their shops and stores as they wait for the SACCO to approve their loans to start their own businesses. Loans are given to them in stock other than cash. Mentorship goes on until they can fully run their business on their own. We have managed to kick start over 800 members as you will see some successful stories in the NEWSBITE section of our website.

IN BUSOGA nyota sacco through its structure identifies a vulnerable community, members are registered into the system grouped in groups of say 70-85 members, they present a piece of land say 4-6acres, they decide on what horticulture crop to grow. Nyota sacco invests in solar irrigation systems, hybrid seeds, pay off agronomists and paying off insurance companies to insure the projects, during there free time they are taught value addition in the products like tomatoes to make tomato sauce, water marron to make water marron juice, producing liquid soap, candles and petroleum jelly for those members not interested in continuing with agriculture after the five years of the project, On harvest Nyota sacco through its Kampala branch, members sell off the produce to the members in nakasero market, kafumbe mukasa market, kalerwe market and nakawa market, proceeds are shared as (members 40%, land owner 5% and Nyota sacco 55%)  Nyota sacco uses the 55% to establish more projects to benefit more members, pay back the loan in case it was loan money, and to pay employees, this has made the project sustainable, we have seen members get 900,000 to 1,200,000 a season , 75members cultivating on 3acres. we advice them to use 250,000 to buy a goat, pigs or birds(livestock), save 150,000 with Nyota sacco, and the balance of 800,000 to take care of the basic needs like school fees.

NYOTA BUSINESS TRADERS SACCO comprises of spirited founders with strong zeal to extend financial support to the optimistic individuals with enterprising ideas to change their life to the extent that they pledged their properties including land titles worthy 3 billion in net worth to microfinance support center to access loan to help the youth who had no collateral security to access these loans. With our strong credit assessment team, we resort such an enterprising idea into an iterative process of checks and control before extending our loans to such individuals. Our goal is to impact 7 million youth not only in our area of location but also suburb districts around Kampala.
